Effective questioning becomes more important than knowing the answers to certain questions in controlling our minds than letting it control us. In order to understand the traditional jewellery of Nagaland, it becomes vital to keep the former questions in mind, since ornaments to Naga tribes are more than just useful for their survival.
The traditional jewellery of Nagaland is multi-colored with simple designs and is crafted beads, feathers, brass, bronze, shells, claws, wood, glass, bone, precious stone, horns, and ivory. Symbolic of the land's ancient heritage are the colorful and intricately designed costumes, jewelry, and beads.
Here is the list of traditional jewellery of Nagaland:
1. Konyak Collar
To make the Konyak collar, ancient deomani glass beads are shaped into short, tubular, or cylindrical shapes and adorned with brass heads. A collar with red beads symbolizes danger, blood, and flame. A man who hunts and exterminates tigers wears tiger teeth to show their courage.
- Beaded Jewellery of naga
Under the shimmering mountain sun, the Nagas believe that the beads contain all prayers made and sustained. Naga women generally wear necklaces that are thick with many strands. According to traditional beliefs, the thicker the neckpiece, the more wealthy one's family and wearer would be.
Glass beads are strung on locally manufactured fiber cords which are further adorned with coins to create these accessories. There are also many other naga jewelry items like konyak Trophy Heads, kuki Jewellery, etc. that are native to specific tribes.
Jewelry among Nagas is bound by social ties; it is beyond life. When a person dies against their will, all their possessions, including ornaments, are either left at the place of death or in the abandoned home they occupied before they died. This is also known as the best traditional Nagaland jewellery.
In the past, most nagas conducted this ritual, which is now restricted to the interior. A number of abandoned collapsed houses have been found in certain places. Ritual practices are determined by the tribe.
In some Naga tribes, everything in the household of the deceased is abandoned in the event of an accursed/exceptional death (a childbirth failure, drowning incident, etc.). This includes the house itself which cannot be burned down until it collapses naturally.
In addition to money, all belongings are left untouched and unattended. The men of other tribes of the Naga were abandoned without sheathing or ornament when they died violent deaths, like being eaten by a tiger or being hit by falling objects. Their deaths were regarded as punishment by the Gods.
So,
these were some of the jewellery of Nagaland and these jewellery are very famous all over India.
